Each July, Martin County 4-H, along with youth from Floyd, Lawrence and Elliott counties, come together at the J.M. Feltner 4-H Camp in London. This camp caters to youth aged 9-14, offering engaging activities designed to develop new skills and create lasting memories.

This year campers had the opportunity to tackle a rock wall, glide across a zip line and navigate a low ropes obstacle course. The natural surroundings provided perfect scenery for nature walks, where the campers found an abundance of wildlife. Other opportunities for activities included fishing, canoeing, riflery, archery, volleyball, basketball, recreation, media arts, crafts and fun foods.

Camper Riley Parks begins the trek to the top of the high ropes rock wall. Riley was successful in her climb and was able to zipline from the top to complete the course.

In addition to these activities, the camp included some relaxing classes of hammocking and yoga, allowing participants to unwind from the noise and chaos of the week and practice relaxation techniques. These activities ensured a well-rounded experience for all campers.

Beyond the physical activities and classes, the camp also delivers important life lessons. Participants learn independence, time management, and the value of gaining new friendships and connections with other young people and trusted adults.

Campers reflect on their week with a special bonfire and slideshow on their last night at camp.

Martin County took over 50 individuals this year, including several youth ages 9-14, fourteen teen counselors, two adult volunteers and four extension staff.

Camp pricing can be steep for many families. However, this year with 4-H fundraising, scholarships, and individual and organizational donations, each child was able to experience camp FREE of charge. We thank everyone for their participation in all our fundraising efforts!

Most of all, we thank our adult volunteers and teen counselors who chose to spend four days of their summer vacation ensuring these children have a memorable experience to look back on.

We are looking forward to next year and hope to see some new and familiar faces join us! Be sure to follow our Facebook Page (Martin County 4-H) and check our website (martin.ca.uky.edu) often for new programs and activities.
