PRESTONSBURG — The East KY Science Center & Varia Planetarium has successfully wrapped up the first month of its summer science camps, themed “Exploring the Universe.” Running through the end of July, these camps feature different grade ranges each week, covering topics such as black holes, the solar system, moons, astronauts, space suits, stars and constellations. Campers also enjoy music, a planetarium show and much more.

“Science camps at the EKSC are a wonderful way to engage young children in STEM learning. Through hands-on activities, music, literature and scientific thinking, students are presented with the opportunity to increase their scientific knowledge and critical thinking skills,” said Susan Scott, Science Center educator.

There is another opportunity for participation for those who missed the June camps. The July camps will feature the same grade ranges and topics each week.

The remaining July camp dates are as follows:

– July 9-11: Rising grades 2nd-third, 9 a.m. – noon

– July 16-18: Rising grades 4th-5th, 9 a.m. – noon
