Tug Valley Athletic Hall of Fame announces Inductees Class of 2024

NAUGATUCK, W.Va. — The Tug Valley Athletic Hall of Fame and Museum’s board of directors has announced the election of the members of the Class of 2024 Induction Class and its plans for its 2024 Induction Ceremony.

The Fourth Tug Valley Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held on Friday, Oct. 11 at the high school. A “Meet and Greet” Reception will begin at 3:45 p.m. where event attendees may meet the 2024 Inductees. The Induction Ceremony will begin at 4:30 p.m. and go to 6:30 p.m. Both events will be held in the school’s cafeteria/commons area.

Following the Induction Ceremony, the school will host their annual “Hall of Fame Game,” during which the 2024 Inductees will be honored. This year’s “Hall of Fame Game” opponent will be Riverview High School, with the game and its festivities getting underway at 7 p.m.

“This fourth HOF Class is an exceptional class featuring student-athletes from the school’s first decade and the most recent classes as well,” said Tug Valley Athletic HOF Executive Director Jeffrey Reynolds. “With five All-Staters making up this group, this class will be very familiar to our entire TVHS community.”

The Fourth TVHS Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Class, the Class of 2024, includes the following:

Art Deskins

Art Deskins: A 1995 TVHS graduate, Art was a four-sport athlete for Tug Valley. He played football, basketball, baseball and track for Tug Valley. Art was a Second All-State Team Selection in football and was a member of the first-ever TVHS WV state football playoff team in 1994. During his senior year, Art scored 21 touchdowns and had 1580 receiving yards for the Panthers. He also was a member of the first TVHS Track team placing second in several meets to future NFL Hall of Famer Randy Moss. He was a starting guard for the Panthers in basketball with a career average of 14 points per game and a leadoff hitter in baseball with a career batting average of .315.

Caleb May: A 2021 TVHS graduate, Caleb was a four-year player in both football and basketball for the Panthers. Caleb was a two-year First Team All-State Selection in both football and basketball. Caleb played in two Class A State Tournaments for the Panthers and was named a member of the 2021 Class A WV State All-Tournament team. He was a 1000 career point scorer for the Panthers and led the state in scoring in basketball in 2021, with an average of 24 points per game. He played on three sectional and regional championship basketball teams for Tug Valley. He played in both football and basketball in West Virginia State North-South All-Star games. In football, Caleb was also a member of both the 2018 and 2020 Class A Panther football teams leading the team in both touchdown receptions and receiving yards and was in the top 10 receivers in the state in both categories.

Makayla May

Makayla May: A TVHS Class of 2021 graduate, Makayla was a four-year player in girls basketball and girls volleyball for the Panthers. She was a member of the Lady Panthers’ 2021 West Virginia Class A Girls Basketball State Championship team. She was a First Team WV All-State Team Selection in Girls Basketball in 2021 and a 2021 WV State Tournament All-Tournament Team. Makayla was awarded Class A Girls Basketball All-State Honorable Mention for three consecutive years from 2018-2020. She was a career 1000 + point scorer and rebounder for Tug Valley and is the Tug Valley Lady Panthers All-Time Leader in career rebounds. Makayla also was selected to play in the West Virginia North-South Volleyball game.

Dustin Mills

Dustin Mills: A TVHS Class of 2016 graduate, Mills was a standout football 4-year football team member for the Panthers. Dustin was a WV Class A First Team All-State Team Selection in 2015. He was a 2015 Huff Award Contender (award given to the state’s most outstanding high school defensive football player). Dustin was a starter on three consecutive Tug Valley Football Playoff teams from 2013-2015.

Ethan Varney

Ethan Varney: A TVHS Class of 2020 graduate, Varney was a three-sport athlete for the Panthers. He was a four-year letterman in football and baseball and also played basketball for the Panthers. Ethan was a 2019 Class A First Team All-State Offensive Team Selection in football. He played on two Tug Valley High WV State Football Playoff Teams (2017, 2019). Ethan had one of the most successful seasons in TVHS and WV high school football history in his senior year, setting the school’s single records in touchdown passes thrown (30) and passing yardage (2169). He rushed for 841 yards with nine rushing touchdowns. He also played defensively, gaining six interceptions and one defensive touchdown. During his senior football season, Ethan was the D & D Player of the Week four times, was the Coalfields Breakout Player of the Year and a Coalfields Player of the Year Finalist. He amassed 432 yards (372 passing, 60 rushing) and six touchdowns (5 passing, one rushing) in a single game that season vs Van. Ethan was also a baseball standout for the Panthers being named twice to the Second Team All-State Team in baseball.

Tickets go on sale for the event July 1 and will be $15.00 each. This ticket will include admission to both the “Meet and Greet” Reception and the 2024 Induction Ceremony.
