LEXINGTON — The Martin County Lady Cards participated in the 2023 Division III Women’s Basketball National Champions Team Camp on June 14 at Transylvania University.

Games consisted of two 18-minute halves with a running clock, and free throws were adjusted to allow for more playing time.

The Lady Cards played three games and finished with a 2-1 record.

In the first game, the Lady Cards faced the Woodford County Yellowjackets and narrowly lost 34-30.

Game 2 saw the Lady Cards secure a 32-30 win over Reading High School from Ohio. The Lady Cards initially built a 15-point lead but allowed Reading to close the gap, making it a competitive finish.

In the third game, the Lady Cards dominated the Henry County Lady Cats 44-12.

“This was a good camp to allow this group to come together and learn how to win,” Lady Cards coach Robin Newsome remarked. “All the kids played a lot and are getting used to playing different roles. Playing summer games allows us to get work in as a team. The Transylvania Camp was a good experience.”

The Lady Cards will next attend the Cumberland Team Camp on June 17 and 18.
