Richard Runyon
1948—2024
Richard Runyon, 76, of Pigeon Roost, loving husband of Joyce Runyon, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 15, 2024.
Born Feb. 10, 1948, in Kermit, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Roy and Evelyn Jones Runyon.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers Leeroy, Larry Joe, Lewis Ray, Chester, Charles Cecil, Wilbur Dean, Wendell Glen, and Roger and his son-in-law Chris Poole.
Richard graduated from Kermit High School in 1968 and was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in Korea as an IMJIN Scout patrolling the Korean DMZ.
Richard was a retired coal miner of 26 years. He loved his time in the coal mines, having been a section foreman for 21 of 26 years.
Additionally, Richard was a member of the Lovely Freewill Baptist Church, where he served since 1986. He enjoyed spending time with his family, vacationing in Daytona Beach, playing with grandkids and working around the house.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Joyce Robinson Runyon, son Brian (Rachel) Runyon and daughter Michelle Poole. He was a beloved Poppaw to four grandchildren, Brandon (Brianna) Poole, Drew Poole, Hannah (Blake) Woods, Austin Runyon, and one great-grandson, Colter Woods. Spending time with his grandchildren gave him great joy and wonderful memories.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 17, 2024, in the chapel of Crum Funeral Home, Inez, with Lonnie Smith and Danny Hall officiating. He was laid to rest at the Riverview Memorial Gardens in Louisa. Arrangements are under the direction of the Crum Funeral Home of Inez.
