INEZ — Following a June 4 deadline, city commission candidates for the November general election are a step closer to getting on the ballot, setting the stage for races in both Inez and Warfield.

The Inez City Commission saw four contenders file for its four openings, whereas the Warfield City Commission attracted only three candidates for its four seats, leaving one vacancy.

“A write-in candidate could file by Oct. 25 at 4 p.m.,” Martin County Clerk Susie Skyles said of Warfield. She also mentioned that the names of write-in candidates would not appear directly on the ballot but would be available to voters upon request.

Should no write-in candidates come forward, according to Skyles, the newly elected Warfield City Commission will have the authority to appoint a member to fill the open position.

The Warfield City Commission race includes incumbent John Sammons and newcomers Jessica Goble and Jamie Leigh Queen.
