JENKINS — Martin County High School Cardinal Peyton Davis was awarded the Laithan Award for Defensive Player of the Year. He was chosen amongst the top high school basketball players in the tri-state to play in the D&D Sports Annual Mountain Showcase April 20-21 in Jenkins.

The guard is known for being a defensive terror on the hardwood. Davis had 68 steals on the season and shot 45% from the floor during his junior campaign.

When Davis isn’t burning up the nets in the gym, he is extinguishing flames with the Kermit Volunteer Fire Department. Davis volunteers with his dad Billy Davis.

Davis will be a senior in the upcoming Cardinal season and hopes to lead his team to a 15th Region championship.
