PILGRIM — A tragic house fire on Meathouse Road in Pilgrim resulted in the death of a resident early Sunday morning.

Authorities confirmed that 61-year-old Mary E. Jude was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:01 a.m. by Martin County Coroner Chris Todd.

Jude’s body is being transported for an autopsy.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

According to Todd, the area had experienced an electricity outage.
