William ‘Robert’ Maynard
1948—2024
William “Robert” Maynard, 76, of Hodgenville, formerly of Inez, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2024, surrounded by his family after suffering from a long battle with cancer.
He was born Feb. 6, 1948, to the late Hezekiah and Una Webb Maynard in Williamson, West Virginia.
Robert joined the United States Navy, where he served two years in Vietnam. He worked as a coal miner and served as a deputy sheriff in Martin County. Robert was well-known for refereeing basketball and umpiring baseball games. He was an avid lover of the University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball.
Robert had a contagious personality, and everyone who knew him loved him. He married his high school sweetheart, Judith Clay, in 1968.
In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded by his wife of 49 years, Judith Clay Maynard; a son, Willaim Howard Maynard; a granddaughter, Brooke Nicole Maynard; four sisters, Barbara Chaffin, Beulah Brewer, Winnie Carter and Helen Maynard; and two brothers, Hershel and Arthur Pete Maynard.
Survivors include a son, Keith Bradley (Alesha) Maynard of Hodgenville; two grandsons, Seth Patrick of Inez and Kameron Preece of Radcliff; a special niece, Angela Friend of Galloway, Ohio; a special great-niece, Bekah Friend of Galloway, Ohio; a host of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Robert was cremated. A celebration of life service with military honors will be held at a later date.
