Lady Panthers drop pair of games

The Tug Valley Lady Panthers dropped a pair of games on the road to Shelby Valley 8-7 on April 8 and Chapmanville 11-1 on April 9.

Lady Panthers edged by Lady Wildcats

VIRGIE, Ky. — The Tug Valley Lady Panthers lost to the Shelby Valley Lady Wildcats, 8-7 in softball action April 8.

The Lady Panthers took a 3-0 lead after the top of the first inning. The Lady Cats scored one run in the bottom of the first.

Shelby Valley took the lead 4-1 in the third inning, added three more runs in the fifth and tacked on another in the sixth frame.

Tug plated four runs in the sixth but was not able to regain the lead. Coach Rocky Hall’s squad pounded out seven hits. However, they left six runners in scoring position.

Bailee Hall had a double but was the losing pitcher. Hall had six strikeouts and gave up five walks.

The Lady Panthers committed five errors in the game, which helped the Lady Wildcats in their rallies.

E. Compton was the winning pitcher for the Lady Wildcats, with S. Flemming picking up the save. Both pitchers also had two hits to lead Shelby Valley.

A. Osborne had a pair of hits to lead Tug Valley, while H. Muncy, Jessica Spaulding, A. Wellman and M. Griffey all had base hits.

Chapmanville 11, Tug Valley 1

CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. — Tug Valley lost to Class AA Chapmanville 11-1 on April 9.

Bailee Hall was the losing pitcher in the circle for the Lady Panthers.

Hall had a great offensive performance smacking a home run and a double. Jessica Spaulding and Tailyn Russell also had hits for TVHS.

The winning hurler for the Lady Tigers was C. Murphy.

Chapmanville had a balanced offensive attack banging out 13 hits for their 11 runs. Murphy and C. Atwood led the way with three hits each. B. Christian had a homer for CRHS.

Tug Valley came into the week ranked No. 5 in Class A.
