INEZ — Martin County has a new Family & Consumer Sciences agent at the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension in Inez. Marshall University graduate Asya Jarrell, a Martin County native, began her new role April 1.
“I enjoy it,” Jarell said. “I really like my co-workers. It’s a good setting.”
As the Family & Consumer Sciences agent, Jarrell will operate educational programs that focus on making healthy choices, nurturing families, embracing life as you age, securing financial stability, promoting healthy homes and communities, accessing nutritious food, empowering community leaders and more.
“I will be focusing on the food and nutrition programs offered here, working with the homemakers, the quilters and things of that nature,” she said.
Jarrell’s educational background aligns with her current responsibilities. A 2020 graduate of Martin County High School, she furthered her education by majoring in Health Sciences and minoring in psychology at Marshall, where she graduated in December 2023.
“I recently moved back home and had the opportunity to apply for the job,” said Jarrell. “I’m excited to be able to reach back out to my community.”
The 22-year-old resides in Inez.
