OLIVE HILL — The Martin County Lady Cards lost a hard-fought matchup to the West Carter Lady Comets 7-4 on the road March 28.
Neither team scored in the first two innings. The Lady Cards struck first in the top of the third. Kaylee Endicott led off with a single and then stole second base. Keilan Jewell’s sacrifice grounder advanced Endicott to third. Haley Robinson delivered a clutch single, driving Endicott home and giving the Lady Cards a 1-0 lead.
West Carter tied the score 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning. The Comets added three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-1 advantage.
Martin County rallied in the top of the fifth inning. With two outs, Jewell belted a double to ignite a comeback. Addison Duncan followed with a double of her own to bring Jewell home and narrow the gap to 4-2.
The Comets broke through again in the bottom of the sixth inning to notch three runs and extend their lead to 7-2.
Despite the uphill battle, the Lady Cards refused to back down. Bella Muncy singled, Endicott walked and Duncan singled to plate two runs in the top of the seventh.
That would be the final score, though, as the Martin County rally fell short.
The Lady Cards scored four runs on eight hits and three walks.
Alyssa Mullins toed the rubber for the Lady Cards. She gave up seven runs on 12 hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Duncan doubled and singled, while Jewell doubled and Muncy, Endicott, H. Robinson, Mullins and Bella Robinson all singled.
