PRESTONSBURG — Big Sandy Community and Technical College will launch its inaugural BSCTC Giving Day April 25 during Community College Month.

The 24-hour fundraising event provides the opportunity for the community to lend financial support for students.

BSCTC President Scott Rule said funds will go toward scholarships, food pantries, emergency aid, student enrichment programs and other initiatives. Scholarships will be need-based and will help students stay in school and complete their education.

“We are excited to join with our community, alumni and advocates to lend financial support to students facing financial hardships,” Rule remarked. “With many families facing economic challenges and a state workforce shortage in targeted industries, the need for student support has never been greater.”

According to a recent Kentucky Community and Technical College System survey, 25% of community college students face low food security. By providing access to nutritious food, planners hope to provide a supportive environment where students can thrive academically and personally.

The fun starts at 6 a.m. April 25.

Individuals, businesses and organizations interested in supporting local students can designate their gift for BSCTC.

Early giving is already open. Visit KCTCS.edu/givingday and select BSCTC or the college of your choice.
