AKRON, Ohio — U.S. Marshals arrested a man last week wanted in connection with a hit-skip crash that killed a former Martin County resident last month in Akron, Ohio.
David Allen Farren, 23, of Akron, is behind bars on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and hit skip in connection with the death of 47-year-old Jimmy “Rocky” Fletcher of Akron.
Police arrested Farren the morning of March 18 on Bowdoin Lane near West Thornton Street in Akron.
Farren is accused of striking Fletcher with his car while Fletcher was riding his bike north on South Arlington Street about 4 p.m. Feb. 9. After hitting Fletcher the car turned onto Ray Street and left the scene, leaving the seriously injured man behind, police said.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Fletcher lying on the ground unconscious. He was transported to Summa Health Akron City Hospital by emergency medical services with potentially fatal injuries and passed away Feb. 12.
In the days and weeks following the deadly crash, traffic investigators gathered information that led to the identification of Farren as the driver of the vehicle involved, a white 2013 Chevy Cruze. The vehicle was later traced to Ashtabula, Ohio, brought back to Akron on March 7, and then processed.
An arrest warrant for Farren was issued March 8.
Fletcher was the son of Charles Michael Newsome and Leatha Mae Crum Newsome.
