BOE spotlights Gifted & Talented, Science Fair winners

INEZ — This month’s Board of Education meeting, which was postponed for the 15th Region tournament, featured a student spotlight highlighting the academic achievements of middle and elementary school students in Martin County.

Superintendent Larry James recognized regional science fair winners, including McKenna Fletcher, who received first place in the biomedical and behavioral science category as well as best in fair, and Ella Lawson, who received second place in biomedical and behavioral science. Olivia Maynard, who was not able to attend the meeting, was recognized for receiving the Amazon Innovation Award as well as third place in innovation of materials and design.

Lawson, a member of the Beta Club, took the opportunity to pass a thank you message from the club along to the Board.

The Board went on to recognize students in the K-8 Gifted and Talented program along with their instructor Stephanie Perry.

“Ms. Perry does a wonderful job for our kids and we appreciate her very much,” said James.

Martin County Middle School students recognized in the program include Cole Jewell, Blake Stacey, Bryson Dials, Wade Dillon, Karly Fletcher, Landon Hager, Haley Harless, Ella Lawson, Garrett Lowe, Easton Marcum, Zachary Maynard, Jacob Terry, Aleah Moore, Jaxon Pack, Gunner Russell, Chloe Stacy, Davin Yates, Lacy Maynard, Morgan Allen, Annaleigh Davis, Jocelyn Hunt, Aleigh McGinnis, Adrian Stumbo, Kyleigh Alexander, Laken Blevins, Dean Sammons, Jeremiah Delong, Jonathan Delong, Nikita Lanes, Christian Carter, Anna Hinkle, Jazz Jude, Zach Maynard, Robbie Daniels, Violet Muncy, Isaac Ward, Audrey Vanover, Hope Caldwell, Ben Kinser, Honor Harmon, Annabell Ginnis, Reagan Sparks, Lily Long, Tara Keens and Kayla Hammonds.

While Jewell received his certificate of recognition, James took a moment to highlight that Jewell is also a talented member of the wrestling team and that he and Parker Maynard will be traveling to Iowa to compete nationally.

Eden Elementary students recognized in the program included Jett Blair, Lexi Bowen, Liam Ferrell, Kami Fletcher, Olivia Horn, Paisley Lafferty, Harley Maynard, Olivia Maynard, Kennedy Mills, Olivia Stacey, Hayden Crum, Aubrey Wilson, McKinley Fitch, Braxton Pack, Raven Scott, Blake Wells, Lisa Mollett, Jonah Mills, Dalton Endicott, Keilin Whitten, Paige Stafford, Gavin Kushto, Derek Mollett, Declan Spaulding, Skylyn Fitch, Emma Fletcher and Mallory Hale.

Inez Elementary students in the program include Aubrey Muncy, Zayden Tackett, Layla Howell, Kyliegh Wright, Laney Davis, Blayne Williams, Harper Runyon, JC McCoy, Kayden McCoy, Madelyn Jude, Abbie Daniels, Davis Wilson, Gracie Harless, Erica Collins, Ison Ritchie and Kason Evans.

Warfield Elementary students in the program include Jonah Alley, Brayden Maynard, Aiden Endicott, Mason Phillips, Leland Jones, Morgan Dove, Kairi Slone, Shaun Nelson, Kennedy Maynard, Jonathan Muncy, Josh Muncy, Ryan Davis, Brynlee Chapman, Desmond Mills and Kyleigh Estep.
