PRESTONSBURG — Kenny Wayne Shepherd delivered an evening of blues-rock Thursday at the Mountain Arts Center in Prestonsburg.

The 46-year-old recounted the journey of his debut hit “Déjà Voodoo,” which climbed to No. 5 on the charts, from his inaugural album “Ledbetter Heights,” recorded in 1995 when he was 18.

Shepherd’s set included tracks from his latest release, “Dirt On My Diamonds,” which debuted in late 2023.

One highlight of the evening was when he unleashed a powerful rendition of the 1998 hit “Blue on Black,” earning a standing ovation.

Shepherd closed the show with a riveting extended take on Jimi Hendrix’s “Voodoo Child,” about 10 minutes of blues-rock mastery.
