CAP Garden Seed voucher program begins April 1

The Big Sandy Area Community Action Program (BSACAP) has announced the return of its annual Garden Seed Program. Starting April 1, residents can apply for $50 vouchers to build their own food-bearing gardens.

The sign-ups will run through April 5 or until the allocated funds are fully utilized, following a first-come, first-served principle.

The program provides the means to purchase seeds, plants and fertilizer from local vendors.

To participate, interested residents must visit their nearest BSACAP service office to apply in person.

Applicants are required to meet certain criteria, including income eligibility guidelines. They also must furnish the following:

• Proof of income from the previous month

• Social Security numbers for all household members

• A metered utility bill to verify their address

This year, the BSACAP will be able to serve 200 households through the Garden Seed Program.

The initiative is partially funded by the Community Services Block Grant from the Cabinet for Health and Family Services and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
