INEZ — The Martin County Lady Cardinals finished the regular season Feb. 19 with a 64-60 victory over the Betsy Layne Bobcats. The game was played in Inez and served as Senior Night for the Lady Cards.

It was an emotional evening for five Martin County seniors and their families. Laken Williams, Katie Marcum, Alyssa Allen, Kennadi Mollett and team manager Marley Baldridge were honored before the game. Coach Robin Newsome and staff presented each senior with their four-year letterman jackets, a jersey shadowbox and other gifts.

“This has been a once-in-a-lifetime group,” Newsome said. “We will not only miss them as players but as members of our basketball family.”

Senior players were surprised when their parents were invited to join the Lady Cards huddle as their daughters were announced for the starting lineup. The parents had rehearsed the routine for running out onto the court and performed it alongside their daughters as they were called out.
