INEZ — OnPoint Ballers and basketball Hall-of-Famer Carla Booth are making waves in Inez with elite basketball training and “The League.”

A famed Sheldon Clark High School alumni, Booth’s illustrious career includes All-State honors in high school, runner-up Miss Basketball, a Division 1 scholarship to EKU, consistent All-American titles at Alice Lloyd College, and an impressive single-game scoring record of 49 points at ALC.

As the lead OPB trainer, Booth is committed to nurturing the future of basketball by teaching young athletes the core fundamentals and enhancing their skills. She is particularly enthusiastic about The League, which in Inez features around 90 Kindergarten to eighth-grade participants from various counties, including Martin, Floyd, Johnson, Lawrence, Pike, Mingo and Wayne.

Over the next five weeks, these young athletes will compete in games every Friday evening. They also participate in skills training throughout the week.

The League is organized into three age categories: K-2, 3-5 and 6-8, with each category comprising four teams: Team Green, Team Orange, Team Maroon and Team Light Blue. Booth relishes the opportunity to witness the weekly progress of these players and feels privileged to contribute to their development.

OPB’s The League spans three locations: Inez, Floyd County and Hazard. Play in Inez will culminate in a tournament, with the winner advancing to a showdown in Floyd County.

Booth eagerly anticipates the rivalry among the teams from these locations.

“Let’s see who comes out on top between Inez, Floyd County and Hazard,” Booth said. “I’m excited that Inez is included in this journey.”

Booth extends her gratitude to Billy Maynard Jr., Eric Copeland, and Brittany McCoy for their consistent support in Inez. She also thanks the parents, community members and the boards of the Collier Center and Martin County Public Library for their assistance, acknowledging their role in making The League a reality in her hometown.

“It sure is good to be home,” said Booth.

Highlighting the achievements of young athletes, Booth applauds The League Star Players of the Week in Inez: Kenna Hale, Lucas Booth, Mason Stumbo, Kashlor Hundley, Aiden Copeland and Stephen Montoya.
