LOUISVILLE — Martin County wrestler Parker Maynard is the Mountain Citizen Player of the Week. Maynard clinched his second consecutive state middle school wrestling title Saturday, winning the KFWC Middle School Championship 150 lbs class and amassing a perfect 20-0 record on the season.
The eighth-grader defeated Maximus Baxter of Colt Wrestling 8-3 in his final match. Leading up to the final he pinned Grayson Wade of Legends in 33 seconds, Peyton Zinser of Woodland in 28 seconds and Darius Ridener of McCreary County in one minute, 2 seconds.
In addition to two middle school state championship titles, Maynard is a four-time elementary school state champion and a four-time national champion.
He will compete with the high school wrestling team in the regional this weekend. Then it is off to state, where he has a great shot at winning as an eighth-grader.
