INEZ — Shining a spotlight on a crucial group of professionals, Martin County School District Superintendent Larry James encourages the community to join him in celebrating “Family Resource and Youth Services Coordinators Appreciation Week” Feb. 5-9.
James praised the dedication of FRYSC coordinators within the school district in a recent statement.
“Our FRYSC coordinators have worked tirelessly to develop a system of supports within our community,” James remarked. “The FRYSC coordinators and their partners provide opportunities that allow all students to learn and increases the success of students, families and schools. These coordinators will truly do ‘Whatever It Takes’ to help our students and families in need.”
The efforts of the FRYSC coordinators are multifaceted. They evaluate and meet needs in a coordinated, safe way— from basic needs like school supplies, shelter, food and clothing to social, academic and emotional support.
Martin County FRYSC coordinators are Amanda Stepp (Warfield Elementary), Andrea Muncy (Inez Elementary), Marlena Slone (Eden Elementary), Jennifer Alley (Martin County Middle), and Kara Marcum (Martin County High).
Below is James’ statement:
“The week of Feb. 5-9 is Family Resource and Youth Services Coordinators Appreciation Week across the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The Family Resource and Youth Services Centers (FRYSC) at each school in Martin County strive to remove the non-academic barriers to student achievement and work with the schools and community to bridge the gaps to needed resources.
“This program was one of the most successful parts of the Kentucky Education Reform Act of 1990. The collaboration of school and community services has been crucial in efforts on behalf of students to promote early learning and successful transition to school, academic achievement and well-being, and graduation and transition into adult life.
“Our FRYSC Coordinators have worked tirelessly to develop a system of supports within our community. The FRYSC Coordinators and their partners provide opportunities that allow all students to learn and increases the success of students, families and schools. These coordinators will truly do “Whatever It Takes” to help our students and families in need.
“I encourage everyone to celebrate the work of the Family Resource and Youth Services Coordinators for the work they do to serve our students, families and community.”
Sincerely,
Larry James
