INEZ — A domestic dispute escalated into violence Friday, leading to the arrest of James Maynard, 42, and April Hickman, 36, both residents of Inez.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Department reported that the altercation occurred on Little Rockcastle Road.

Deputy Chris Sesco responded to a call regarding domestic violence at the couple’s residence. According to the police report, Hickman alleged that an argument with Maynard had turned physical and that Maynard assaulted her. Maynard reported that Hickman hit and scratched his face and attempted to strike him with a baseball bat.

The deputy noted visible signs of injury on both individuals, with Hickman sustaining an injury on the side of her head.

Law enforcement arrested both individuals on a charge of fourth-degree assault (domestic violence) minor injury.
