TOMAHAWK — Music enthusiasts and aspiring fiddlers will gather Sunday at James E Webb Musical Repair and Sales at 31 Stidham Lane in Tomahawk for an evening filled with strings, bows and community spirit. The event, starting at 5 p.m., promises to be fun and informative for all ages.
The evening will kick off with a fiddle workshop led by Violet Updike, a celebrated young multi-instrumentalist and singer from Kentucky. Known for her fiddle, guitar and vocal abilities, Updike studies traditional music at Morehead State University.
The workshop aims to introduce beginners of all ages to the fiddle, with a special segment in the first 15 minutes dedicated to young children.
Organizers stress the importance of inclusivity, setting a suggested donation of $20 while ensuring that no interested person is turned away due to inability to pay.
Following the workshop, attendees are in for a treat as Updike will join forces with friends Anabel and Clay for a 45-minute concert. The trio promises an unforgettable performance exhibiting their exceptional talent and passion for traditional Kentucky music. Their repertoire is expected to include traditional and contemporary pieces that resonate with the rich musical heritage of Kentucky.
As the concert concludes, the evening will transition into an open jam session, inviting all attendees to partake in the joy of music-making. Whether a seasoned player or a curious novice, everyone is encouraged to bring their instrument—or borrow one from the shop—and join in the communal harmony.
Pizza will be ordered at 6 p.m., allowing participants to mingle and enjoy a slice while reveling in the music.
