Martin County Arrest Report

INEZ — Martin County Sheriff John Kirk’s Office reported the following arrests and citations:

Aaron Spence

Aaron Spence, 48, of Inez, was arrested Tuesday on Coldwater Road in Inez for public intoxication controlled substance (excludes alcohol).

Deputy Chris Sesco responded to a hang-up call to 911. When the officer arrived at the residence on Coldwater Road, Spence was outside and advised a female had accused him of stealing her wallet. The deputy noted Spence had slurred speech and glossy eyes. When asked if he had taken “anything,” Spence allegedly stated he had taken methamphetamine just a couple of hours earlier. Deputy Sesco conducted a field sobriety test, noting Spence showed clues of impairment on horizontal gaze nystagmus, heel-to-toe test and leg stand.

John B. Stevens

John B. Stevens, 66, of Lovely, was arrested Monday for alcohol intoxication in a public place. Deputy J.C. Kirk made the arrest. Deputy J.C. Kirk responded to a complaint that Stevens had a strong odor of alcohol, slurred speech and difficulty keeping his balance. The deputy performed field sobriety tests but cut them short for Stevens’ safety due to his inability to keep his balance.

John M. Stevens

John M. Stevens, 43, of Lovely, was arrested Monday at Family Dollar in Warfield for alcohol intoxication in a public place. Deputy J.C. Kirk responded to a complaint that Stevens had a strong odor of alcohol, slurred speech and difficulty keeping his balance. Stevens failed field sobriety tests, Kirk said.

Rosanne Jude

Rosanne Jude, 60, of Hode, was arrested Monday on Little Elk Road in Warfield on two bench warrants for court. Sesco made the arrest. 

Asiaa Meek

Asiaa Meek, 26, of Lovely, was arrested Friday at Moore’s Trailer Park in Lovely on two bench warrants for court. Chief Deputy Chris Kidd made the arrest. After Meek was lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, Deputy Sesco served her Sunday with another bench warrant for court.

Jonathan Mollett

Jonathan Mollett, 35, of Louisa, was arrested Thursday on Gayle Carter Road in Inez for first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and drug paraphernalia – buy or possession.

Deputy Kidd went to a residence on Gayle Carter Road for a “knock and talk” due to drug trafficking complaints. Mollett opened the front door while the officer walked up the front steps. Deputy Kidd said Mollett was acting nervous, having difficulty speaking clearly, and kept reaching in his left front pocket. When asked if he had any weapons, Mollett allegedly stated he had a knife in his pocket “and would not stop reaching for it.” While patting Mollett down, Deputy Kidd discovered a knife, a small clear bag containing a crystal substance and a straw in Mollett’s pocket.

Jessica Harless

Jessica Harless, 40, of Inez, was arrested Thursday on Gayle Carter Road in Inez for endangering the welfare of a minor, drug paraphernalia – buy or possession, and possession of marijuana.

Deputy Kidd went to Harless’ residence to conduct a “knock and talk” due to drug trafficking complaints. When he arrived, Harless and Jonathan Mollett walked out the front door of the residence. The police report states Mollett had what is believed to be meth on him, while Harless told law enforcement that all she had was marijuana and paraphernalia inside the home. She allegedly stated she used marijuana earlier Thursday.

During the investigation, Kidd discovered there was a 12-year-old juvenile inside the home.

“The home did not have running water,” Kidd stated.

Harless said the juvenile was her biological child, but her rights had been terminated several years ago.

Deputy Kidd contacted the Department for Social Services, which resulted in the child being removed from the home for alternate placement.

Harold Moore

Harold Moore, 62, of Debord, was arrested Thursday on Fitch Branch in Inez on a bench warrant for court. Kidd made the arrest.

Melissa Copley

Melissa Copley, 56, of Warfield, was arrested Thursday on Lower Poplar Fork in Beauty for second-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, possession of marijuana (complicity), and drug paraphernalia – buy or possession (complicity).

Deputy Kidd responded to a call from a homeowner about a burglary at a residence on Lower Poplar Fork. The caller stated her neighbor had witnessed forced entry into the home via the back door. Upon arrival, the deputy found the back door ajar and the inside portion of the door frame broken and lying on the floor. When he announced law enforcement presence, Copley came out of the back bedroom and met the deputy in the kitchen area.

According to the police report, Copley stated no one else was in the home and that she had nowhere else to stay.

After detaining Copley, the deputy continued a safety sweep of the residence and encountered another female inside the same back bedroom. He noticed a pipe typically used for smoking marijuana and a bag of green leafy substance believed to be marijuana in plain sight on the nightstand beside the bed.

Laurie Reed

Laurie Reed, 49, of Warfield, was arrested Thursday for second-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, possession of marijuana (complicity), and drug paraphernalia – buy or possession (complicity). Deputy Kidd responded to a call from a homeowner about a burglary at a residence on Lower Poplar Fork. The caller stated her neighbor had witnessed forced entry into the home via the back door. The deputy announced law enforcement presence, prompting a female to come out of the back bedroom and meet him in the kitchen.

He noticed a pipe typically used for smoking marijuana and a bag of green leafy substance believed to be marijuana on the nightstand beside the bed.

McKaiah Knuckles

McKaiah Knuckles, 26, of Sparta, was arrested Thursday on Main Street, Inez, on a bench warrant out of Carroll County. Sheriff Kirk made the arrest.

David Joshua Brown

David Joshua Brown, 38, of Lovely, was arrested Dec. 27 at 4547 North Wolf Creek in Lovely for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and a bench warrant for court. Deputy Chris Sesco responded to a report of Brown fighting with his ex-girlfriend. Officers located a firearm in a bathroom inside the home.

George W. Chapman II, 32, of Inez, was cited Dec. 27 at Dempsey Housing in Warfield for first-degree criminal trespass. Sheriff Kirk reported Chapman was inside a residence at Dempsey Housing, knowing he was barred from the property.

Doug Jude, 52, of Pilgrim, was cited Dec. 26 in Pilgrim for third-degree criminal mischief. Deputy Kidd was called to Warren Road in Pilgrim about a man shooting a camera out. According to the police report, the alleged victim presented a video that appeared to show Jude coming to a window of his home and shooting the camera out.

The officer stated that Jude had asked him earlier what he could do about a neighbor’s security cameras, and the officer advised Jude there was no law stating the neighbor could not put up cameras on their private property.

Kidd noted that Jude said he did not want to admit to shooting the camera but would not deny it.
