Bill Chafin
1932—2023
Bill Chafin, 91, of Kermit, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord Monday, Dec. 25, 2023, at Tug Valley ARH in South Williamson, Kentucky.
Born March 5, 1932, in Mingo County, he was the son of the late William and Janie Evans Chafin.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Jackson Chafin, second wife, Fern Chafin; eight siblings, Loraine, Louise, Ruth, Nora Lee, Erving, Ethel Mae, Melva, William Jennings, Harrison and Bobby Lee Chafin; son, Bobby Chafin; and stepson, Millard Porter.
Bill retired from General Motors and was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of the Kermit United Baptist Church for 39-plus years.
Bill is survived by his son, Billy Chafin Jr.; daughters, Diana (Paul) Christman, Nora Chafin and Sondra (Chad) Grace; many grandchildren, including two special grandchildren, Alex Messer and Haley Grace; many great-grandchildren; and step-children, Mary Davis, Crit Hall, Lottie Webb, Helen Johnson, Gail Steak and Juanita Deskins.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, Dec. 29, 2023, at Kermit United Baptist Church, with Pastor Freddy Messer Jr. and Damian Sammons officiating. Burial was in the Chafin Cemetery on Middle Burning Creek. Mullins Family Funeral Home of Warfield is honored to serve the family.
