Kentucky State Police investigate attempted murder

OLIVE HILL —  A Morehead man is in jail on an attempted murder charge after shooting a man Sunday morning in Olive Hill.

Paul J. Hensley, 40, of Morehead, is in the Carter County Detention Center facing attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, third-degree possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia possession.

Kentucky State Police Post 14 Ashland responded to a call at 11 a.m. from Carter County 911 reporting a shooting at 21847 West U.S. 60.

According to the KSP, the preliminary investigation revealed Hensley and Jonathan Bowling were in a verbal altercation when Hensley pulled a gun and shot Bowling.

Police stated the injured man was transported to a medical facility for treatment of multiple wounds to his shoulder.

Following the incident, troopers obtained a search warrant for the residence and found firearms and narcotics.

Trooper Ethan Hartsell is investigating the case. The Carter County Sheriff’s Department and Carter County EMS assisted at the scene.
