Kentucky woman sentenced to two years for forgery of federal judge’s signature

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Kentucky woman was sentenced Friday to two years in prison for forging a federal judge’s signature.

Sunshine Ann Miller, 44, of Whitley City, was sentenced by Judge Katheryn A. Crytzer in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee at Knoxville.

Miller agreed to plead guilty to forging the signature of United States District Judge Pamela L. Reeves.

According to court-filed documents, Miller sought to extort money from an elderly, bedridden resident of Scott County, Tennessee, in August 2019. While serving as the victim’s caregiver, Miller provided him with a counterfeit federal warrant upon which she had forged the signature of Reeves.

Before Reeves’ passing Sept. 10, 2020, she had been a U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Tennessee.

Miller will be on supervised release for two years following her imprisonment.
