Phillip Michaellee Speakman, age 18, of Inez, went to his heavenly home Dec. 8, 2023, at UK Hospital in Lexington, holding his mommy and daddy’s hand while his baby brother Christopher stood at his bedside.

Born Sept. 9, 2005, he was the son of Clayton and Tammy Speakman of Inez.

Phillip was a member of the old Jennings Creek Baptist Church, where he was saved and baptized by Ray Station and Mikey Newsome Oct. 1, 2023, during a revival.

Phillip was a senior at Martin County High School. His all-time favorite teacher, Becky Harless, walked every step with him through the last couple of years of school. He always said, “he was her favorite.”

Phillip loved the outdoors, but fishing, hunting and coon hunting were his all-time favorite. Phillip always gave Ray and Hannah a hard time over who had the best hound. “Ol’ Hooker” was his, and boy, did he think she was a No. 1 hound. He would always have Sharon laughing.

Phillip is preceded in death by his grandmother, Hazel Diane Bowen; his grandfather, Timmy Speakman; his aunt, Courtney Jude; uncles Michael Bowen and Derek Mollet; his bubba Shawn Spence; his great-grandparents, Buck and Charity McCoy, Nebert Bowen, Jarrell Marcum, Granville and Linda Mollett, and Roger Meade.

In addition to his parents, Phillip is survived by one brother, Christopher Speakman; three others who were like his brothers, Buck Bowen, Nebert Bowen and Jameson Harmon (Jameson sure loved his bubba Phil Phil); two sisters, Hazalena and Dashia Speakman; his grandma, Sandy Mills; his grandpas, Curtis Lee Bowen and Michael Mills; great-grandmas, Maxine Marcum, Laura Bowen and Lois Meade; his POPS, Robin Spence; his mamaw Brenda; sissy Sheretta Spence (Robin and Brenda and their families loved Phillip as their own grandson); his aunts and uncles who he loved, Tiffany (Greg) Preece, Laura (Timothy) Speakman, Granville (Charlet) Mollett, Billy Ray Jude, Curtis Ray Bowen, Danielle (Kevin) Fletcher, Jason (Kathy) Hall, Mason (Tori) Funk, Keshia Bowen (Kiki), Ashley Knipp, Angela Howard and Nikki Bowen. Phillip also leaves behind a special person who meant a lot to him, Allison Reed, and a host of great aunts, uncles, cousins, and buddies.

 Kris Moore, Skyler Morrison, David James, Taylor Spence, Markus Spence, Ben Moore, Tyler Newsome and Jeremiah Collins will serve as pallbearers.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023, in the chapel of Crum Funeral Home, Inez, with Ray Staton officiating. Burial will follow at the Mollett Cemetery on Tomahawk. Friends may visit the church Tuesday and Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the funeral home to assist with funeral costs. Arrangements are under the direction of Crum Funeral Home of Inez.
