LOVELY — A Martin County High School senior suffered severe head trauma after falling backward from an ATV Saturday while riding on Wolf Creek.
Although details surrounding the accident remain scarce, Martin County Constable Brad Preece confirmed he was dispatched to a residence at Maynard Flats on North Wolf Creek at approximately 10 a.m. Saturday where fellow riders had allegedly transported 18-year-old Phillip Speakman after the accident occurred. The exact location of the accident remains unconfirmed.
Upon arrival, Preece found Speakman unconscious and unresponsive. First responders and Patriot Ambulance responded to the scene and transported Speakman to a hospital in South Williamson. After a quick evaluation, he was transferred to Pikeville Medical Center.
Speakman’s mother, Tammy Speakman, gave updates on social media, indicating severe head trauma and asking for continued prayers for her son. She reported her son had emergency surgery in Pikeville to relieve pressure on his brain and to repair a bleed. She also said he suffered a fracture to the base of his skull, facial fractures and contusions, a broken jaw and a broken rib. Immediately following surgery, he was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, where he reportedly remains on life support.
His family is asking churches and the community to pray for him.
Phillip Speakman is a senior at Martin County High School.
