Linda Marie Preece
1946—2023

Linda Marie Shortridge Preece, 77, of Jefferson City, Tennessee, formerly of Pilgrim, Kentucky, passed away Friday, Nov. 17, 2023.

Linda was born March 10, 1946, in Mingo County, West Virginia, to the late Jacob and Connie Miller Shortridge. She is preceded in death by a sister, Donna Sue Hatfield, and brothers, Willie Clarance Shortridge, Arnville Oswald “Pete” Shortridge, Paul Taylor Shortridge, James Elmer Shortridge and Richard Eugene Shortridge.

She leaves behind a brother, Leslie Alvin (Donna) Shortridge of Piedmont, Oklahoma, a sister, Juanita Plesinger of Hamilton, Illinois, and many nieces and nephews.

She was a widow and devoted mother to six girls: the late Linda Diane Jude, Lisa Ann Kirk of Louisville, Donna Sue Maynard of Jefferson City, Tennessee, Brenda Gail Khattab of Lexington, Tina (Edward) Pollard of Jefferson City, Tennessee, and Alleena Nichole (Sean) Jarrell of Pilgrim.

Linda was a loving grandmother to 18 grandchildren: Melinda Bradley, the late Robert Maynard Jr., Phelecia (Ira) Messer, Chad (Kirsten) Sparks, Eli (Tiffany) Cline, Kristie Lusk, Rodney Maynard Jr., James Darren Maynard, Kara Bowen, Jeremy (Tina) Bowen, Joshua (Carrie) Bowen, Jessi (Jason) Cooper, Jorden Pollard, Lauren (Serge) Fabre, Kendell Jarrell, Shauna Jarrell, Elijah Jarrell and Nicholas Brady Jarrell. She also leaves behind 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Linda was a child of God. She was a strong, determined, and fierce woman who had fought a long, hard medical battle for many years.

The family thanks the wonderful nurses, CNAs, and staff at The Life Care Center of Jefferson City, Tennessee, for their unwavering love and care for our Maw.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at the Callaham Funeral Home in Warfield at a later date. A private burial will follow at the Yates-McCoy Cemetery in Merrimac, West Virginia.
