Tomahawk woman cited for cruelty to animals for neglecting dogs

TOMAHAWK — A Tomahawk woman was cited for second-degree animal cruelty after allegedly failing to provide food, water or shelter for two dogs.

Martin County Sheriff John Kirk responded Oct. 30 to the residence of Joanie Ann Hill in the Milo Subdivision after receiving multiple reports concerning the welfare of the dogs.

Upon arriving at the property, the sheriff reportedly discovered one dog confined to a small cage without any form of shelter. A second dog, which had been chained to the porch without shelter, had broken free and was found roaming the area.

Hill allegedly informed the sheriff that she could not afford a kennel or dog house and expressed a willingness to surrender the dogs.

The county’s animal control officer took custody of the dogs.
