Mountain Citizen Player of the Week: Brock Messer

Brock Messer is the Mountain Citizen Player of the Week.

Messer, running back and defensive back for Martin County, gave a remarkable performance in the first round of the 2A playoffs Friday vs. Pike Central at The Rock. He helped secure the Cardinals a second-round playoff game vs Betsy Layne.

Messer racked up 199 rushing yards on four carries and scored three touchdowns to help secure the Cardinals a second-round playoff game this Friday against Betsy Layne. The senior averaged 49.9 yards per carry with one 78-yard run. He also contributed two tackles on the defensive side.

Messer has been consistent all season and his stats speak for themselves. He has played in all 11 games, racking up 1,116 rushing yards on 145 attempts, finding the end zone 12 times and adding a two-point conversion for 74 points on the season. He is currently ranked ninth in 2A rushing and 36th in scoring.

Messer’s impact also goes on the defensive side of the field, where he rallied 45 tackles over the course of the season.
