DELBARTON, W.Va. — A Mingo County man was arrested after an autopsy confirmed his 1-year-old infant died of fentanyl overdose.

Kevin E. Urban, 24, of Delbarton, was arrested Oct. 31 by Sgt. Norman Mines of the Mingo County Sheriff’s Department on a charge of child neglect resulting in death.

Mingo County Chief Deputy Allen Mounts said emergency services responded to a home in Delbarton for an unresponsive child Oct. 4. The infant was transported to a hospital in South Williamson, Kentucky, where it later died.

During the course of a child neglect investigation, police returned to Urban’s residence, where they found fentanyl residue around the home, including in the bedroom where Urban and the child both slept.

Urban allegedly admitted to using fentanyl in the home around the child.

The suspect is currently in the Southwestern Regional Jail in Holden on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
