Rayburn Spaulding
1942—2023

Rayburn Spaulding, 81, of Piketon, Ohio, passed away Oct. 26, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Born March 21, 1942, in Kermit, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Bryant Spaulding and Jenettie Parsley Spaulding.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Joyce Ann Spaulding; his son, Deron Spaulding; his daughter, Connie (Spaulding) Keller; and his granddaughters, Audrey (Michael Lowry) Keller and Kimberly Keller (Matthew Cottrill), whom he adored. He is also survived by four sisters, Nora Meade, Connie (David) May, Iva (Grady) Romans and Emma Faye Fader, and his in-laws, Claudette Dillon, Edwina Dillon and Edward Dillon.

He is joyfully reunited with his parents, Jenettie and Bryant Spaulding; one son, Okey Spaulding; siblings, Effie (Herbert) Meade, Tennessee (Dana) Hannah, Juanita “Peach” (Okey) Harrison, Sesco Spaulding, Joe Bryant Dingess and Elbert (Mary) Spaulding; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Claude and Nora Dillon; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James, Tom, George, Dallas, Daniel, Frank and Douglas Dillon, Wanda Vance and Margaret Dillon.

Rayburn proudly served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army. He loved walking in the woods and finding interesting patterns in the trees and rocks. He was excellent at hunting for four-leaf clovers. Whether he found a good natural walking stick or a shamrock, he loved to share his luck with others. Rayburn was a lifelong music lover and enjoyed singing with his family. He will be dearly missed by family and community members.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023, at the God’s Little White Church, Left Fork of Marrowbone Creek, Kermit, with John David Messer officiating. Burial will follow at the Brewer-Fitzpatrick Cemetery in Kermit. Arrangements are under the direction of the Callaham Funeral Home, Inez.
