INEZ — Martin County standout soccer player Laura Hale has been named to the 2023 All-State Honorable Mention team, capping off an exceptional season.
Hale’s contributions were instrumental to the Lady Cardinals’ successful 18-4 season.
Her performances played a crucial role in securing the 15th Region All-A championship, winning the District championship, and earning the No. 1 seed in the regional tournament.
The Lady Cards ultimately achieved a runner-up finish in the 15th Region.
Hale’s statistics for the season are impressive. She netted 30 goals, maintaining the highest goal-scoring average on the team with 1.8 goals per game. Her playmaking abilities include 17 assists and 77 points throughout the season.
Hale’s performance was not unnoticed statewide, as she ranked among the best in various statistical categories. She secured the 33rd position for scoring, 23rd for assists, and 29th for overall points in the state.
Hale’s influence extended beyond her individual achievements, positively impacting the Lady Cards’ overall team performance. The team stood among the best in the state in multiple categories, ranking fifth in scoring, eighth in defense, third in team margin, and sixth in team shutouts.
Martin County coach Steven Hale had nothing but praise for Hale.
“Laura had a great season. She led our attack despite being covered by 2-3 defenders most games,” Hale remarked. “She was injured most of the season and played through the pain. Making the all-state team shows the quality of the player she is, but playing injured demonstrates her level of determination and toughness. She is a great player to coach and is very deserving of this honor. I’m just so excited for her.”
