INEZ — Martin County Sheriff John Kirk’s Office reported the following arrests and other activities:
Dorthy M. Spence, of Tomahawk, was arrested Monday in the Martin County Government Center on a bench warrant for court. Sheriff Kirk made the arrest.
James Sparks, 21, of West Liberty, was arrested Sunday on Frog Pond Road, Inez, for third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), second-degree disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Constable Brad Preece arrested Sparks after observing him riding on a side-by-side doing doughnuts at the Pigeon Roost Community Center.
Shannon Bowen, 40, of Inez, was arrested Sunday on Blackburn Cemetery Road in Debord for third-degree criminal trespassing, third-degree escape and public intoxication-controlled substance (excludes alcohol). Sheriff Kirk arrested Bowen for allegedly attempting to enter John Cook’s residence after she was told not to be there. Bowen ran from the sheriff upon arriving at the booking room in Inez. The sheriff chased her on foot around the government center and took her back into custody. The police report states Bowen could not follow directions, was unsteady on her feet and had involuntary movements.
Stephen M. Moore, 48, of Warfield, was arrested Sunday for speeding 26 mph or greater, reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol (BA .08), failure of owner to maintain required insurance, failure to produce insurance card, operating on suspended or revoked operator’s license, failure to wear a seat belt, failure to register transfer of motor vehicle and obstructed vision and/or windshield.
Marcus Durbin, 19, of Bardstown, was arrested Friday at the United States Penitentiary Big Sandy in Debord for criminal trespassing. Chief Deputy Chris Kidd arrested Durbin after he entered the USP Big Sandy federal property with a ski mask, a pair of hand restraints and a lock-blade folding knife. When approached by prison staff, Durbin allegedly said he entered the restricted property to take pictures for a school paper. The suspect later stated he lied and had no reason for entering or remaining on the property. The police report notes that signs entering the property warn against trespassing and prohibit bringing weapons.
Kathy Mary Hall, 43, of Inez, was arrested Friday on Columbus Preece Road, Inez, for second-degree cruelty to animals. Deputy J.C. Kirk responded to a report that four dogs were abandoned at a residence on Columbus Preece Road. The deputy reported that during his investigation, he found two “extremely malnourished” dogs lying in feces inside small cages outside the home with no food or water. He stated he found three additional dogs inside the home “infested with bugs,” with no food or water.
Delbert Sweeney, 43, of Inez, was arrested Thursday on Rockcastle Road in Inez on a warrant for third-degree terroristic threatening. According to the criminal complaint, while monitoring the metal detector in the judicial courthouse, court security officer Andrew Chapman overheard Sweeney state that he wanted to “gut Chief Deputy Chris Kidd from asshole to elbow.” Deputy Kidd made the arrest.
Johnny Moore, 53, homeless, was arrested Thursday at Warfield Park. Deputy Kidd responded to a call about a possible overdose at Warfield Park. The officer stated he found Moore with an open alcoholic beverage. According to the police report, Moore said he did meth earlier.
Kathleen Jude, 36, of Warfield, was arrested Thursday for second-degree hindering prosecution or apprehension.
Jennifer Miller, 39, of Adams, was arrested Sept. 27 on Main Street, Inez, on a bench warrant for court. Kidd made the arrest.
Jackie Blackburn, 58, was charged Sept. 27 on Route 1714 in Pilgrim with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/substance. Sheriff Kirk reported Blackburn wrecked the vehicle he was operating and had a strong odor of alcohol. According to the police report, Blackburn admitted he drank several drinks. The suspect had two bottles of Fireball in his pocket. Blackburn and his passenger, Dennis Allen Maynard, were transported to the hospital.
Jonathan Mollett, 35, of Louisa, was arrested Sept. 27 on Old Route 3, Inez, on an indictment warrant out of Lawrence Circuit Court and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Deputy Kidd was at Mollett’s house to serve an indictment warrant when he noticed a shotgun on the floor at Mollett’s feet with 12-gauge shotgun shells beside it.
Ernest D. Pack, 59, of Inez, was cited Sept. 26 on Maynard Lane, Inez, for violation of air pollution standards and rules. Sheriff Kirk was patrolling when he saw black smoke and noticed a strong odor coming from Maynard Lane. The sheriff located a burn pile of copper on fire. According to the police report, Pack stated he was unaware that burning copper was illegal.
In related news, Garland Mills, 72, of Pilgrim, was arrested Monday by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/substance.
