LOVELY — A man was arrested Saturday in Lovely for allegedly attacking a neighbor on his own property.
Dennis Maynard, 38, of Lovely, was taken into custody on Little Peter Cave Road for second-degree assault.
The Martin County Sheriff John Kirk’s office responded to a 911 call by the alleged victim’s wife, stating Maynard threatened her husband with a knife and struck him with a stick.
Sheriff Kirk reported the details of the incident, revealing that Maynard assaulted David Grace using a 2×2 wooden board embedded with a nail. When officers arrived at the scene on Little Peter Cave Road, Grace was bleeding from his head in his own driveway.
Grace provided a statement to the police, recounting that he arrived home to catch Maynard on his property. He further mentioned that he warned Maynard against trespassing in the past, accusing him of theft.
Maynard defended his actions by saying he believed Grace was trying to hurt him.
The arrest report notes that police found a pocket knife on Maynard upon his arrest.
Sheriff Kirk said Maynard appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
Maynard is in jail at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville.
