Martin County defeats Mullins and WB Muncy

WARFIELD — Martin County Middle School Lady Cards basketball notched wins over Mullins 32-28 and WB Muncy 46-8 last week, moving their record to 13-1.

MC 32, Mullins 28

The Lady Cards clashed with the Mullins Lady Tigers at home Aug. 21. Despite a resilient effort from the Lady Tigers, the Lady Cards emerged with a final score of 32-28.

Seventh grader Annaleigh Davis led the charge for the Lady Cards in the first quarter, racking up six points as Martin County claimed an 8-2 lead.

Mullins retaliated in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Cards 9-7, but the Lady Cards maintained a 15-11 advantage going into halftime.

The Lady Cards turned up their offense in the third quarter, outscoring the opponent 11-7 for a 26-18 lead.

The Tigers rallied in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lady Cards 10-6, but it was not enough. When the horn sounded the Lady Cards came out on top.

Davis led Martin County with 12 points, Maci Maynard and Desirae Gullett contributed nine points apiece, and Lexi Cline added two.

MC 46, WB Muncy 8

The momentum continued Aug. 22, as the Lady Cards secured an impressive 46-8 victory over WB Muncy.

The Lady Cards took an early lead and never looked back. 

Gullett caught fire and knocked down four treys for a season-high 18, Davis contributed 17 points, Maci Maynard added eight, and Bri Muncy and Caylee Moore each chipped in two.
