Hello, Cardinal Nation. We are excited to bring you the first Bird’s Eye View of the 2023-2024 school year. We have many exciting topics to discuss throughout these excerpts, such as our football, soccer, cheer and the new dance team.

We will start with our Cardinal athletics programs, in which our Martin County High School football team beat the Hazard Bulldogs 20-7 on opening day. This remarkable win leads the Cards to a noteworthy season. The Cardinals took on Pike Central Hawks at Belfry in the Pike County Bowl Friday, Aug. 25.

Speaking of Friday night lights, on opening day Aug. 16, “The Dance Cards” had a “show-stopping” halftime performance. The Dance Cards played to their audience with a captivating routine everyone enjoyed. The cheer team played a major role in keeping the boys in great spirits throughout the game. Their halftime performance was spectacular as well.

The Lady Cards soccer team took on the Belfry Lady Pirates in the sixth annual Kentucky Farm Bureau Cup. The Lady Cards continued their winning streak of six by beating the Lady Pirates 10-0. Not only did they come home with the first place trophy, but starting right wing forward Sophie Mccoy took home her own personal trophy for “offensive player of the game.” Starting wing defender Tamara Workman was awarded “defensive player of the game.” The Lady Cardinals traveled to Rowan County on Saturday, Aug. 26, to play their fifth game of the season.

JAG KY and the Martin County Kiwanis Club are hosting this year’s Harvest Fest Speech Contest. The contest will take place on Sept. 15. Students from kindergarten all the way up to college can compete for the first place finish. Make sure to come out and support all of the phenomenal students who will compete in this amazing annual event.

This does it for the news this week at MCHS. Tune in next week for another awesome Bird’s Eye View from Jacob Sturgell and Dray Duff.
