INEZ — Martin County Sheriff John Kirk is alerting residents to an ongoing scam in which suspects are imitating law enforcement and asking the public for money donations.

“We are not soliciting money for the sheriff’s office,” Kirk posted on social media Thursday. “This is a scam. Please let your family and friends know.”

At least six area businesses and offices reported they had received the call.

The sheriff asks anyone who receives a scam call to contact his office at 606-298-2828.
