WARFIELD — The City of Warfield Commission held a meeting Thursday to discuss various matters, including the need for heat pump repair and replacement.

With the temperature soaring to 90 degrees daily, the issue of air conditioning at Horizon Recovery was at the forefront.

City Clerk Rhonda Price presented an estimate for replacing the air conditioning unit that serves the former community center building.

Commissioner John Sammons expressed the urgency of the matter.

“We can’t wait another month to move on this because it’s July, and it’s hot,” Sammons said. “One way or another that woman’s got to have air conditioning. It’s 90 degrees out there every day now.”

The commission instructed Price to gather two more estimates.

Horizon Recovery has been coping with the heat by holding meetings with clients in a different part of the building. Commissioner Sammons characterized the arrangement as an “inconvenience.”

Mayor Mike Hinkle and the other commissioners unanimously agreed on the need for immediate action. Commissioner Sammons brought up the need for ditching on Fire House Lane. He suggested the city request help from District 5 Magistrate Ronald Workman to address the issue.
