CITIZEN STAFF REPORT
WARFIELD — Gospel music, cars, food and fellowship will fill Warfield Park as the community gathers Aug. 19 for the annual AlleyWay Benefit Gospel Sing & Car Show.
Free to the public, the event will kick off at noon and offers a packed day of entertainment and opportunities to support families in need.
Organizer Ricky Alley, who felt called to start the yearly event in 2012, promises a day filled with “great gospel singing, benefit auction, good food, beautiful cars, wonderful fellowship and great preaching.”
Alley’s dedication is a hallmark of this yearly gathering. He has helped a number of families that are struggling financially through the years.
Stellar line-up of performers
Several groups and individual artists will take the stage to perform “out of the goodness of their hearts to help with this worthwhile cause,” Alley says. The groups include Ricky Alley, David & Sheila Bowen, The Blankenships, May Family, Chris Perdue, Trish Hart, Upstring Band, Anointed, Joe Moore, Karen Perry and Bobby Fletcher.
Rev. Carson Gray of Pineville, West Virginia, will deliver the message.
Car show for automobile enthusiasts
This year’s event adds a special twist with a car show from noon to 4 p.m. Car enthusiasts can enter their vehicles for $10 and showcase their prized possessions.
Fun, fellowship and giving back
Concessions will be available throughout the day, with a range of delicious food options to satisfy every palate. Attendees can also participate in the benefit auction and try their luck with door prizes. Those wishing to support the cause further can give a love offering at the gate.
The event stays true to its tradition of donating all proceeds to benefit local families in need. This core mission of giving back has made the Alley Way Benefit Gospel Sing & Car Show a beloved part of the Warfield community calendar.
The event will go on rain or shine. With limited seating, Alley encourages everyone to bring lawn chairs. He says a tent will be set up in case of inclement weather.
