FRANKFORT — The Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet (EEC) announced the quarterly Martin County Water District Workgroup meeting will be July 14 in Inez.
This in-person session will take at 1 p.m. at 387 East Main Street. A videoconference option via Zoom is also be available for those who cannot attend in person.
According to the EEC, the workgroup, established in 2020, encourages collaborative efforts between the Kentucky EEC and relevant stakeholders. The goal is to ensure “affordable and sustainable drinking water for the residents of Martin County.”
EEC Secretary Rebecca Goodman leads the workgroup. Participants include the EEC, Martin County Water District and Alliance Water Resources. The group also comprises Kentucky Rural Water Associates, University of Kentucky and Big Sandy Area Development District. Representatives from Martin County Concerned Citizens, engineering firms and law offices also participate.
In these quarterly sessions, the workgroup focuses on a range of issues. Those include detailed operational requirements, finances, long-term strategic goals, the development of essential tools and other needs. According to the EEC, the gatherings present an opportunity to update on projects, upgrades and compliance initiatives. Finally, the meetings provide a platform for open discussions and assistance.
The agenda for the upcoming July 14 meeting includes opening remarks from EEC Secretary Rebecca Goodman. The director of the Division of Water, Carey Johnson, will make introductions and announcements. Craig Miller from Alliance Water Resources will provide an update on the operations of Martin County Water District. Johnson will facilitate an open discussion.
The proposed date and time for the next workgroup meeting is Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023 at 1 p.m.
