Philip Sheridan Booth Jr. Obituary

Philip Sheridan Booth Jr.

1947—2023

Philip Sheridan Booth Jr., of Inez, Kentucky, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 24, 2023. He had battled cancer for 16 years and celebrated every victory the Lord allowed while on this journey. His last days were spent in his home with love and support from his family, friends and neighbors.

Jr. was born April 20, 1947, in Beauty to Philip Sheridan and Bertha Mills Booth. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Joyce Booth Ferris and Peggy Blankenship Stepp, and a brother, Glen Morris Booth. He is also preceded in death by a stepson, Brian Cain.

Jr. has been married to Carol Spence Booth for 18 years. He and Carol were best friends who loved the Lord, loved each other, and embraced life’s blessings and obstacles together.

In addition to his wife, Carol, he is survived by his two children, Wesley Booth of Louisa and Jennifer (Jason) Booth Hutchinson; his four grandsons, Peyton, Landon, Camdon and Jon Asher Hutchinson, of Cincinnati; his stepson, Michael Cain of Frankfort, and granddaughter, McKenna Cain of Louisville. Jr. is also survived by his loving and supportive siblings, Don (Thelma) Booth of Beauty, Jim (Linda) Booth of Inez and Karen (Bill) Harvey of Inez, sister-in-law Joann Booth of Warfield, brother-in-law Landon Stepp of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, faith family and cherished neighbors.

He was raised to work hard and to take pride in his work. As a young boy, he began mowing grass and then added a second job delivering newspapers on his bicycle. Jr. worked various laboring jobs until he began a long career in the coal mines and later owned and operated his own mines. After retiring, he operated a flea market. He spent his last days working on his brother’s farm doing what he loved: designing and creating proper habitats and feeding troughs, and caring for the animals.

Jr. loved his family and his Lord. He enjoyed laughing, loving, and living with Carol, felt blessed to have Wesley and Jennifer, and always said, “I love you!” and “We need to trust in the Lord.” His four grandsons gave him great joy, and he treasured every moment spent with them. He has always been extremely close with his siblings and enjoyed living life with each of them. Jr. truly lived out the two commandments found in Scripture: “…Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind,” and “…Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself” (Mathew 22:37-39). He loved and helped everyone that he could and was intentional about sharing the gospel anytime there was an opportunity. Having strong faith, he knew his life’s purpose was to bring honor and glory to God. Jr. read the Word of God daily, memorized numerous passages of Scripture, attended and served at his local church, and was a pillar in the community. He was loved and will be missed by everyone who knew him.
