GRAYSON — Martin County Lady Cardinals wrapped up a jam-packed three-week summer ball season June 22-23 on the campus of Kentucky Christian University in Grayson.
The Lady Cards varsity went 3-1 and the junior varsity team went 4-0.
Senior guard Laken Williams received an official college offer at the end of camp.
The Lady Cards summer schedule included Border Wars at Greenup High School, Rio Grande Team Camp, NKU Team Camp, Rising Stars league games at home, Knott County team games and the KCU team camp.
Varsity, JV and middle school Lady Cards teams played over 40 games throughout the summer.
“We played some really good competition,” Coach Robin Newsome said. “We won some, lost some, we learned a lot and got better.”
Even though the players experienced their share of aches, pain, bruises and sprains, Newsome said, “they stayed with it.”
“Most of all we had fun, even breaking down on the bus on one of the trips,” added Newsome. “Players have made some lifetime memories during the three weeks.”
Coach Newsome said she is thankful that parents allow the players to participate in summer ball and that players sacrifice three weeks of their summer to improve their team.
“I’m very proud of all of them,” said the coach. “Summer season is a time to improve your game and your team.”
