Fire claims life in Lawrence County

LAWRENCE COUNTY — A devastating structure fire resulted in the loss of a life and left another individual injured Friday morning in Lawrence County.

Kentucky State Police Post 14 responded to a distress call from Lawrence County 911 around 8:30 a.m.

Law enforcement and emergency response units discovered that Terry L. Derossett, 66, had succumbed to smoke inhalation. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A female victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was transported to Three Rivers Medical Center for treatment.

Preliminary investigations suggest the fire originated near a dryer within the structure. Police say there is no evidence of foul play.

The deceased individual was transported to the Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s Office.

The case remains under the diligent investigation of Trooper Bobby King.
