WARFIELD — The supermarket in Warfield, which has undergone various changes in name and ownership, has remained a steadfast institution for the past seven decades. Known today as Warfield IGA, this locally-owned grocery store has been providing the community with a wide selection of fresh, high-quality foods at affordable prices.

Under the ownership of the Walker family since 1991, Warfield IGA has upheld its commitment to delivering the best products and services to its customers. When Derle Walker, the father of Judy Walker Ousley, passed away in 2015, Ousley and her son Brad Pack took over as the owners. Before this, Walker had acquired the store from longtime owner Dan Copley, although his involvement in the grocery business had already begun years before.

Walker’s supermarket in Inez, which operated from 1959 until its closure in 2020, played a significant role in his career. Despite facing adversity, with the store being destroyed by fires on two separate occasions, Walker persevered and continued serving the community he loved.

Ousley reflects on her father’s dedication.

“The store was something Daddy was proud to bring to the folks in Martin County,” Ousley said.

Carrying forward Walker’s philosophy that hard work pays off, Ousley and Pack have successfully maintained the legacy of Warfield IGA. Ousley emphasizes their commitment to the community.

“It’s been a great opportunity to serve this county and give them what they need,” said Ousley. “We keep prices reasonable and competitive.”

The duo aims to provide exceptional value to their customers, always striving to exceed expectations.

Choosing the name “IGA” for their store was a deliberate decision. They wanted a brand that resonated with the local community, and IGA fit the bill perfectly.

Warfield IGA stands as the premier supermarket in Martin, Mingo and Wayne counties, going above and beyond to ensure friendly service, knowledgeable staff and prompt responses to special requests.

With a wide range of offerings, Warfield IGA serves as a convenient one-stop shop for all customer needs. From fresh produce and bakery items to the finest meats, cheeses and salads, the store prides itself on stocking renowned brand-name products.

Moreover, Warfield IGA features a full-service butcher shop, where customers can request custom cuts of meat and a deli and bakery offering a variety of ready-to-eat and made-to-order options. The deli even serves delightful homecooked breakfast and lunch platters daily.

Ousley emphasizes that Warfield IGA is more than just a grocery store; it is a community-centered establishment committed to enhancing the quality of life and development for all residents. The store’s dedication to customer satisfaction and community involvement sets it apart as a trusted neighborhood institution.
