Cardinals suffer late-game loss

OLIVE HILL — With the score knotted 7-7 In the bottom of the seventh, West Carter’s Tabor Tackett hit a walk-off single to bring home the 8-7 winning run despite a valiant effort by Martin County in a game May 10 at West Carter.

The Cardinals put up three runs in their first at-bat to take a 3-0 lead. West Carter battled back to score twice in their first at-bat.

Both teams were quiet in the second inning, but West Carter rallied in the third for four runs to go up 6-3.

The Cardinals picked up one run in the fourth to close the deficit to 6-4.

The Comets responded in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead to 7-4 heading.
