PIKEVILLE — Martin County boys basketball coach Jason James was voted as the 15th Region Coach of the Year by the KABC 15th Region Coaches Association.

James was honored May 1 at the Appalachian Wireless Arena.

Coach James led the Cardinals to a 24-11 record, 57th District Tournament championship, All-A 15th Region Title, and a 15th Region Tournament championship.

“I just really appreciate the award,” James said. “We have a lot of really good coaches that are very deserving of the award in our region, and to win it really means a lot.

“I couldn’t have done it without my assistant coaches – Jarryd Crum, PJ Harris, Wesley Hager, Jordan Dalton and Josh Penix. They all do a great job. And, of course, my players. They really bought into what we wanted them to do this season. Without them doing that, this would have never happened.”
