Rockcastle UBC announces homecoming
CITIZEN STAFF REPORT
INEZ — Rockcastle United Baptist Church of Old Zion will ring its bell Sunday to recognize Israel being proclaimed a nation May 14, 1948.
Deacon Charlie Seabreeze will ring the bell at 10:30 a.m.
“The bell will ring 14 times so it can be heard all over Inez,” Seabreeze said. “If you’re going by and hear the bell, don’t get excited. We want to let the nation know we recognize Israel becoming a state and that it is part of the bible being fulfilled.”
Pastor Don Fannin said the bell would ring to celebrate Israel, and since Sunday is Mother’s Day, it will celebrate mothers.
“That’s why it will ring 14 times,” Fannin said. “This is Irsael’s 75th year. David Ben-Gurion proclaimed the new State of Israel on May 14, 1948. On that same day, President Harry Truman, the 33rd president of the United States, recognized Israel as a nation.”
Rockcastle UBC of Old Zion is also planning its homecoming service for Sunday, May 21.
The church has stood like a “rock” for 202 years on Main Street in Inez. The building has been remodeled, and there have been additions through the years, but it retains portions of the original structure. According to Fannin, the church retains all of its dedication to winning souls to Christ.
“We invite everyone to join us for homecoming service,” said Fannin.
The service will start at 10:30 a.m. with Vadis Chip Gauze and Elijah Collins preaching.
